18:37, Tamien Caltrain Station

Would you believe the next train isn't until 19:50? Time to fill in the diary again. And I can watch planes coming in to land at San Jose Airport while I do so.

Got up late (10:00) this morning. We got to the Con about 11:00 and I started wandering around. Visited the dealer's room and bargained the guy with the staves down $20 on a malachite ball in claw staff - resulting price $120. A bit of money, but I won't get the chance to buy anything like this again soon.

Sally arrived while I was purchasing (actually, I'd seen her just before outside the room - met Murdoch the fuzzy big cat too). We stalked the halls for a while, then sat and chatted. Then stalked again, buying a pewter dinosaur pin by Arlin Robins for my hat. (Sally talked me into it.) [Unfortunately I lost this dinosaur pin when I lost my hat in Vancouver in 2004.] Sally and I had some food in the coffee garden. I had the American Hamburger with Swiss cheese and fries (yummy wedges with skin on!) and Sally and her husband Joe (who arrived later after disposing of a fed Murdoch) had Monte Cristo sandwiches, which consisted of ham and turkey on fried egg bread with powdered sugar, all dipped in strawberry preserves and then eaten. Definitely weird food!

Then it was bye time. I grabbed the rest of my stuff from Steve's car and said farewells in succession to Steve and Colleen, Emmy and Katy, Stephanie, Jesse, Murdoch, and finally Sally. Hugging Sally set off her Star Wars theme musical electronic gizmo - much fun and amusement. Sally's hugs are very seductive.

I left the Red Lion Inn, BayCon, and all the friends there. Walked to the nearest light rail station and grabbed a train to Tamien, where here I await a CalTrain to somewhere closer to San Francisco Airport.

Hopped the train to Broadway station [at Burlingame, where many years later I would spend a lot of time attending Electronic Imaging conferences], which took an hour. Then I had to wait 40 minutes for an airport bus. [I remember waiting at the bus stop in the dark of the evening, and wondering what sort of neighbourhood I was in, and being thankful that I had a sturdy wooden staff to defend myself if necessary. But nothing untoward happened, and now I know that Burlingame isn't really that scary a place.]

Arrived at SFO about the scheduled arrival time of Allison and Terry's flight. It had been delayed and wasn't expected for almost another hour. [They had been away on the second part of their honeymoon, after visiting Yosemite Valley. I forget where they went.]

Went through security, who held my new staff in the security office, and sat down to read and wait. Eventually the plane arrived. Met Allison and Terry, drove back here, getting some Taco Bell on the way. Time to crash...
