11:10

Breed's Hill, Boston. Site of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Well, it's definitely on a hill. An uphill walk from the T station.

We got up this morning about 09:00. I left in quest of food. Au Bon Pain croissants since Bruegger's wasn't open yet. Took the T to Downtown Crossing to grab the orange line to Community College station. They were doing safety drills on the orange line, so I had to take a shuttle bus to Haymarket, then a train to here. Walked up the hill, into the monument, and up the 294 steps to the top. Nice view. I'm glad I came here. Much history and karma. And exercise.

21:40 Co-op

Left the Bunker Hill Monument for the Navy dockyard, where I got a ferry to the Aquarium. Grabbed a quick hot dog for a snack. While waiting in the queue, I got my first query on the West Indies pin in my hat. [At the Boston Navy Yard, I saw the United States lightship Nantucket (LV-112), and got a photo of it.]

Wandered over to the Children's Museum via the Boston Tea Party ship (which I didn't go in - $6!!). Had some clam chowder for lunch then went into the museum. A very fun place! Much madness and many kids roaming around. Bought a cloth patch, a badge, and some shoelaces at the store there. Then went next door to the Computer Museum, which was also way cool. On the visitor survey and natural language interrogation system I discovered only two other visitors from Australia.

Left there about 17:00 to come back to the co-op. Met Elena about 18:30 and we went to Bertucci's (brick oven pizza) for dinner. We shared a large four seasons and delicious hot bread rolls. Yum!

Then we walked over to the Science Centre. Logged in and found Ariane logged on [from Sydney]. Elena left to visit Merrill while I chatted via "talk". Jen was there, which was good news - although she'd been delayed a day in Los Angeles with no visa! Silly travel agents forgot to tell her she needed one. A day's delay to Sue's consternation. Oh well. [Jen was another alt.callahans person, who was visiting Australia from Fairbanks, Alaska, staying for several months. Her arrival in Sydney coincided with me being in the USA on this trip.]

Left them to tea and came back here. Elena is studying away. I think I will go to sleep now though...

Tomorrow should be fun - a trip to Salem! Oh, Elena retrieved my Monet poster from Merrill's for me. I just need to check it in my cardboard tube and see if I need to buy a slightly longer one...
