Yankee Doodle!

Today was an easy day.

Slept in and lounged around the house all day. Well, except for a trip to the store to buy some supplies for our 4th of July celebratory barbecue! Allison cooked up a storm: steaks and hamburgers and potato salad!

After eating that for dinner, Chantal and Tim came over to pick us up and take us to Benicia for the fireworks display over the part of the Bay there. It was good, but I've seen better.

Then we went back to Tim's place for a few small fireworks of Chantal's buying. We had some "smoors" and then Tim drove Allison and me home again. [I had no idea what these "smoors" things were. They are a very American tradition which has not penetrated Australian culture. It turns out the spelling is s'more, which I didn't find out until years later.]

I like Chantal and Tim. They're a lot of fun. A good day in baseball too. The Giants won, the Expos won, the A's lost, the Dodgers lost!

I'm getting homesick! I want to talk to Debby for a while (no particular reason - I just miss talking to her). And I miss Gina. I could handle a conversation with Michael too. Kim, well, I can live without him for a while longer.

Oh, I got some mail yesterday. A tape letter from Denise and a Snoopy travel toothbrush set ad a letter from D. Both sent to the wrong address! But they arrived okay. I'm sending quick correction notes tomorrow.

I'm not homesick in that I want to go home right now. I just want to talk to some of the friends I've left behind. A big old hug from Debby would feel nice. Once from Gina would be even nicer!

At the mall today, I bought a pair of Reeboks for $42! [Very cheap by Australian standards at this time.] And the "Prehistory of the Far Side" book. And a Little Mermaid poster. It is so beautiful. I want it framed and on my wall at home when I get back. It is such a good movie too. [That poster ended up block mounted and indeed hanging on my wall for some years afterwards.]

Gina, Gina, Gina. What is she going to think of me? Allison made me write "I miss you" on the end of a letter that I sent to her on Monday. And she drew a pink heart on a postcard I wrote to her up in Garberville. That goes in tomorrow's mail. Allison thinks I need to "make a move" on Gina. I'm not so sure that that's a good idea. Hopefully she'll overlook the missing and over-affection coming to her from the US. I hope I get a letter from her soon. And I hope I gave her the correct address!

[I didn't take any photos on this day.]
