Today I tried calling Hy Spinrad at Berkeley. He wasn't in. [Hy Spinrad was an astrophysicist at the University of California, Berkeley, and a contact of my Ph.D. supervisor, working on similar topics to those I was studying at this time. My supervisor suggested I contact him and visit for a chat while in the area on this trip.]
Allison and I drove to Concord and then caught BART to downtown San Francisco. We bought cable car tickets and rode down Powell and Hyde.

We walked to Ghirardelli Square and had sourdough sandwiches for lunch. After buying some Ghirardelli chocolate and browsing through a bunch of interesting shops, we went back up to Union Square on the cable car (after a 40 minute wait in a queue).

We walked through Chinatown and up to the Transamerica Pyramid.

We went to the Bank of America Building and rode up to the 52nd floor Carnelian Room foyer. We then rode back down. We didn't get to see the view. [The Bank of America has moved out of this building, at 555 California Street.]

We went to FAO Schwarz to browse through the toys. Three floors of toys!
We ate some frozen yoghurt in Crocker Galleria. We went to the store called Headlines, which sold lots of neat junk.

Coming back on BART, we went to El Torito for dinner. I had a Tampico Trio (three enchiladas). Then we came home and crashed.
