The Demesnes - Introduction

Overview

The Demesnes is the name of the large area of land and nearby seas populated by the civilised races. Many kingdoms, principalities, empires, realms, sultanates, free cities, and other states make up The Demesnes, as well as populations of demi-humans, humanoids, and monsters. Some parts of The Demesnes are heavily settled, with farms and towns, while others remain unexplored wilderness.

Much of the world exists outside The Demesnes, but little is known about such areas. There is occasional trade with outside inhabitants, who offer such marvellous things as silk and spices. These are mostly brought overland by caravans making the long and hazardous trip to the west. Sea voyages are possible, but more dangerous due to the threats of piracy and sea monsters.
