With the announced shutdown of Google+ as of next year, I’ll be losing one of my most active social media outlets. I still haven’t worked out what I’m going to do about all of the communities on there that were very active and that I enjoyed being part of. Some are moving to new platforms which I don’t entirely trust and so I’m a bit reluctant to just follow.

But to replace the function of me posting short bloggy things on Google+, I’m going to start posting them here instead. Or try to at least.

My habit had been to post short anecdotes and things I could get through in a couple of paragraphs at most over on G+, and longer things here. But from now on it’ll all be here. So expect an increase in number of posts on this blog.

I’m just back from a holiday to South Australia, so I’ll be starting to post a new travel diary soon. Although in 2 weeks I’m off again, this time on a business trip to Sapporo in Japan, followed immediately by a trip to Boston for a conference. (I’ll be flying Sapporo-Tokyo-Boston without coming home in between.)

But in the meantime, I’ve started a brand new blog, dedicated to reviewing the two iconic products that have to be made by any bakery that wants to rightfully claim the name of “bakery” in Australia: The sausage roll and the vanilla slice. Without further ado, I give you: Snot Block & Roll.

I’m feeling inspired to post a bit more often here on other topics, now that the long haul of my last trip diary is done. As a first step, I’ve edited all the entries for the Morocco/Spain trip to hide most of the material behind “click here to read more” tags, so the front page of this blog looks cleaner and less bulky.

I thought something I could do would be to post the story behind some of my photos. So I plan to occasionally select one of my photos and explain some of the circumstances around where I was and what I was doing at the time, and what planning (if any) went into the photo. A sort of photoblog with background info.

Let’s see how long this idea lasts. :-)
