23:15

Here we are in Sonora.

Yosemite was absolutely, positively amazing and incredible.

Entering Yosemite
Entering Yosemite, El Portal Road

That's basically all we did today - gawked at rocks and trees and mountains and waterfalls and stuff.

El Capitan, the mighty
El Capitan

[Expanding a bit: We drove into Yosemite Valley and Yosemite National Park via the El Portal Road from Mariposa. This entrance skips the Tunnel View lookout on Wawona Road, from where most of the large scale wide images of Yosemite Valley are taken, so the views along the way during our entrance to the valley were more subdued and slowly expanded to reveal wonder after wonder as we followed the winding road.]

Walls of granite
Bridalveil Fall

[We drove around the valley floor, stopping at various points to admire the amazing views in all directions. Yosemite is a truly marvellous place.]

Yosemite Valley floor
Merced River, Yosemite Valley floor

[We saw good views of the massive granite outcrop of El Capitan, an ultimate challenge for rock climbers, as well as the glacially sheered Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall.]

Half Dome

[We didn't walk very far from the car, and only spent the middle part of the day in the valley, which was bit of a shame as there's so much to see and do here. But I would see more during a later visit, when I stayed overnight in the valley.]

I sent postcards to: Gina, Michael, Shaun, Paul, and Kim and Debby. Tomorrow we see the historic Columbia and the Hershey chocolate factory!
